CEP by Eminence

CERTIFIED ENVIRONMENTAL PROFESSIONAL BY EMINENCE PROGRAM
The Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals (ABCEP) administers the Certified Environmental Professional by Eminence Program which recognizes those highly qualified environmental professionals who seek professional certification.  Those individuals awarded the CEP by Eminence credential may use the designation "CEP" after their name.  This certification pathway will exempt these individuals from the essay question portion of the CEP application.

CERTIFICATION APPLICATION PROCESS
ELIGIBILITY

The Applicant must possess a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of twenty years of applicable professional environmental experience. Fifteen of the twenty years must be in a position of responsible charge and/or responsible supervision. Responsible charge is defined as: the direction of environmental work by an environmental professional (you) to the extent that successful completion of the work is dependent on your decisions made without advice or approval of others. Responsible supervision is defined as: the supervision of another professional person's work by an environmental professional (you) to the extent that you assume the professional responsibility for the work.  Achievement of a leadership position within their organization. An evaluation must be made of both the position acquired and the organization in which the position is held. Must provide demonstrated record of service to the profession.

A Master's Degree may be substituted for one year of the twenty years of professional experience and a Doctorate may be substituted for two of the twenty years of professional experience. However, no such substitution will apply to the requirement for the fifteen years in responsible charge and/or responsible supervision. Degrees claimed must be from a fully accredited college or university (certified transcripts are required).

ABCEP recognizes that there are environmental professionals who have accomplished significant achievements over the course of their advanced career. The CEP by Eminence designation is for those select individuals who demonstrate their unique qualifications and more importantly, contributions back into the environmental profession. A CEP by Eminence Candidate demonstrates that they "give back" to the environmental profession as demonstrated by a portfolio of their accomplishments above what would be expected during a career spanning more than 20 years in place of the essays required under the regular CEP program.  Examples of content in the portfolio can include: mentoring professionals; development of a new commercial technology or regulatory process that improves the environment (e.g. someone who developed a new stormwater treatment piece of equipment, or an air pollution monitoring system, or the pioneer of a widely used wetland assessment methodology); peer-reviewed publications in professional journals.
